After two years of providing students with take-home science kits to remain Covid-safe, UUSA volunteers were beyond ecstatic to finally return to the classroom and held our annual Richie Enrichment Science Workshops in-person this year.

The workshops reach over 1,600 fifth-grade students in Andrews County, Texas and Lea County, New Mexico annually and 160 UUSA volunteers host workshops in 21 different schools near the UUSA facility.

During each presentation, students review Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) educational materials. Each lesson is grounded in the scientific method and students are introduced to a variety of scientific lessons, from identifying material under a microscope to how centrifugal force works.

STEM subjects are incredibly important for students to learn and UUSA’s annual workshops  are focused on providing students with both a foundation and the inspiration to pursue a career as a scientist or engineer.

Volunteers from UUSA also share information about the opportunities our company can provide to the students in the future, from our annual scholarships for graduating high schoolers to the paid internship opportunities available to college students at our facility.

STEM education is of paramount importance to the UUSA team, which is why UUSA recently donated $25,000 to the Career and Technical Center of Hobbs (CTECH). CTECH is a new state-of-the-art educational facility that serves as a valuable pipeline for local high school students to learn technical and vocational skills.
