Urenco USA’s 9/11 Day of Service Project Continues for 12th Straight Year
15 September 2021 UUSAEunice, NM – Over 150 volunteers from Urenco USA (UUSA) gave of their time this past week to pay tribute to the victims of 9/11 through community service projects in both Eunice and Hobbs, NM. UUSA’s 12th annual 9/11 Days of Service projects were spread out over several days this year to allow for volunteers to use Covid-safe practices while giving back to their community. This year in Hobbs, UUSA sponsored outdoor home improvement projects at three Living Support Homes for Leaders Industries, a local organization that has been advocating for and serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families for over 50 years in Lea County. In Eunice, UUSA volunteers refurbished the downtown area and the south cemetery with new trees and bushes and gave the cemetery’s entry gate a fresh coat of paint.
UUSA’s President and CEO, Karen Fili, said, “It’s hard to believe that it has been 20 years since the tragedy on September 11, 2001. It is a day we will never forget and each year, our UUSA employees eagerly participate in these projects to honor those who lost their lives. I am proud of the many years of service we have been able to organize in their memory and for the opportunity this year to support a very deserving organization, Leaders Industries, and as always, our wonderful hometown city of Eunice because I believe we work here, we live here, and we give here.”
There were several companies and organizations who helped support the projects this year including the City of Eunice, Sherwin Williams, J&J Rentals, PB Materials, Lowe’s Home Improvement and Coyote Candle. UUSA looks forward to continuing these 9/11 Days of Service for many years to come.
