Meet Liam Barton, apprentice at Urenco UK

11 February 2021 Global Local Urenco UK

This week, Urenco is recognising National Apprenticeship Week, an annual event highlighting the amazing work being done by apprentices in the UK.

At Urenco, we are proud to offer a range of apprenticeships across our sites, aligning with our commitment to nurture the next generation of scientists and engineers.

Based at our UK site, Liam Barton is one of 1,600 apprentices currently working in the UK civil nuclear industry.

He started his apprenticeship with Urenco in 2017 and has quickly become a valued member of the Mechanical Maintenance team. He has an incredible work ethic and is always looking for opportunities to learn more about how the enrichment plants run and readily volunteers to take on tasks that he hasn’t completed before.

His manager, Ryan Gardner, commented: “Liam is a breath of fresh air, he has an incredible cheery outlook on life which is infectious. As well as completing the more difficult tasks, he is always the first to take on jobs that he is competent to do, allowing the senior members of the team to focus on more demanding tasks. It has been a pleasure having him in the team and although this is his last year as an apprentice we already view him as an additional technician in our high performing team.”

Liam said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my apprenticeship, everyone has been supportive and helpful, from my manager to my colleagues in the team. This is a great place to work and I get the opportunity to learn something new every day.”
