Urenco helped promote STEM education and careers during a sold-out event in the Netherlands for young people.
We are a member of Discover Hightech Almelo, a collaboration of 13 local companies in the Twente region which aims to stimulate interest in STEM for kids, scholars and students.
As part of this, we helped organise the first “Hightech College Tour”, which took place at Grote Kerk, an ancient church building, in the city of Enschede in April.
One hundred young people attended and speeches and other plenary sessions were delivered on the importance of STEM and how the Twente region was a Dutch hub for leading international companies in the high tech sector.
Following the sessions, some of our employees spoke directly with the students about what Urenco does, their jobs and why they work in Twente.
We also highlighted the importance of sustainability, with Urenco Nederland’s Net Zero working group members Martijn Kolkman And Project Manager Tom Feldkamp.
Some of the students were already in STEM education and came from the Saxion University of Applied Sciences and the University of Twente.
Speakers at the event included the Mayor of Almelo, Arjen Gerritsen, and famous Dutch columnist, Sander Schimmelpenninck.
Urenco is committed to nurturing the next generation of scientists and engineers and we also provide workshops and digital resources for students via our Richie Programme here.
