Festive opening of depleted uranium storage building

14 September 2017 Local Urenco Nederland

On 13 September, Princess Beatrix officially opened a new building for depleted uranium storage located at COVRA’s site in the Netherlands. COVRA is a state-owned organisation that stores both low level radioactive waste, like depleted uranium and high level waste produced by industries and the medical sector.

The new building will allow depleted uranium to be stored responsibly and safely for at least 100 years. Local artist William Verstraeten designed the building’s colourful exterior which has been painted ‘Uranus blue’. The largest sundial in Europe is incorporated into the design.
