Urenco Nederland is sponsoring the RED horizon, the new solar car of this year, developed by the university students of Solar Team Twente. The goal of the team, made up of 18 students, was to build the most efficient solar vehicle in the world in just one year. The car is designed to drive more than 3,000 kilometres by using only solar energy. This year, the team will participate in a unique and extremely challenging Solar Challenge in Morocco, driving 2,500 kilometres through the Atlas Mountains and Sahara.
Solar Team Twente, located in Enschede and part of the University of Twente, Saxion University of Applied Sciences and ROC van Twente, is one of the biggest student teams in the Netherlands. A new team is created every two years, and by competing in several solar races around the world, challenges the limits of existing technology.
Solar Team Twente unites more than 150 companies in and outside the country to build the most efficient solar car in the world. Team members pause their studies to show what they can achieve in a short period of time. The goal is to inspire others to contribute to a more sustainable society themselves.
