UCP welcomes university placement students

Two students, both studying for a degree in chemical engineering, have just started working at Urenco ChemPlants (UCP) on a year’s student placement as part of their university courses.

UCP decided to develop further opportunities for student placements as a result of the success of its first undergraduate placement scheme.  Max Mackrill, UCP’s first under graduate placement student, joined the Operations Team last year and has now returned to the University of Bath to complete his studies.

Max worked closely with Andrew Taylor, Senior Process Technologist and Sam Wood, Plant Performance Engineer, on digitising the paper-based processes to improve production and process efficiencies, a key part of the on-going programme to commission the TMF.

Max said:  “The skills that I have developed during my time with UCP will prove very valuable when I go on to complete my final year at university and look for future employment.  This opportunity has enabled me to develop a deeper understanding of the inner workings of multiple company processes and provide assistance in all areas of the business.  

"It has been a very rewarding and challenging experience that has been made all the more enjoyable due to the great team of people who work here.  I want to say a big thank you to everyone for making this a brilliant placement for me.”

Max is succeeded by James Jaffe, a fourth year student at the University of Bath studying chemical engineering and Zach Howdle, also a fourth year student studying for the same degree at the University of Birmingham.

The students will spend their time over the next year working with the Operations Team to help with the commissioning of the TMF, splitting their work duties between process engineering and developing applications to assist with data management.
