Urenco UK has recently re-joined the National Skills Academy for Nuclear

28 July 2016 Local Urenco UK

Urenco UK has recently re-joined the National Skills Academy for Nuclear (NSAN). NSAN was established in 2008 by nuclear employers and Government to address the key skills challenges facing the nuclear programme. NSAN is now well established as the collective and collaborative skills forum for the nuclear industry and is the industry’s leading, not for profit, membership organisation for the sourcing and provision of skills solutions. Benefits of becoming a member include; skills support from NSAN and its High Quality Provider Network, sector support by the dissemination of industry changes that we need to respond to and access to regional and national networking to share best practice.

Peter McCarthy, Head of HR UUK explained:

“I have worked with NSAN in previous roles with other nuclear organisations and have been extremely impressed with the work they do on competence development, I believe implementing a competence framework at UUK is crucial to delivering our people agenda”.

Our first priority through our partnership with NSAN is creating competence frameworks for UUK, starting with Operations and Plant Maintenance as part of the Technician Development Programme. NSAN have developed the NS4P system, this provides competence frameworks for various roles within the nuclear sector which have been developed by a wide representation of nuclear personnel. NSAN are now supporting us in using those master frameworks to review what we currently have to develop our Plant Maintenance and Operations competencies. Rebecca Barnes, HR Project Manager UUK shared “we have been really impressed with what we have experienced so far, NSAN’s links to a vast number of training providers and knowledge of the sector and other nuclear organisations has already proven invaluable”.
