Urenco’s young professionals showcase at 2025 European forum

Members of Urenco’s Young Persons Network (YPN) have participated in the European Nuclear Young Generation Forum (ENYGF) in Zagreb — a key event for early-career professionals in the nuclear sector, bringing together delegates from across Europe.

The YPN team delivered two well-attended, interactive workshops at the Forum, offering technical insights into Urenco Isotopes and Advanced Fuels through engaging games that encouraged dialogue and deeper understanding.

Colleagues Laura, Nathan, and Harrison explored how rising energy demands are driving nuclear growth, aligning with global climate goals.

Panel swaps views on future reactors

During a panel discussion entitled ‘Going Modular’, Business Development Project Manager, Safi Syed, shared Urenco’s perspective on the role of small modular and advanced modular reactors (SMR/AMRs) in the future energy mix.

He emphasised the importance of supply chain alignment and the need to actively promote the sector among young people, students and early-career professionals. This is especially important because the industry will require a new generation of skilled professionals to meet future demand.

He said: “Attracting young talent to the nuclear sector requires fresh approaches, from stronger industry engagement to showcasing the exciting technologies shaping the industry.”

Key points during the session included the growing role of AI, the importance of intergenerational cooperation, the growing interest in LEU+ and HALEU based-fuels, next-generation reactor technologies and a strong focus on safety, security, and decommissioning.

During the forum, delegates also took part in soft skills training, networking events and technical tours, including a visit to the Krško Nuclear Power Plant in Slovenia, which also serves Croatia with energy.
