Urenco joined energy ministers from around the world as well as other leading politicians and industry at the Summit on the Future of Energy Security, hosted by the UK Government and International Energy Agency (IEA).
We were one of four official sponsors for the event in London, and the Summit was an opportunity to cooperate on rising challenges to the world’s energy systems.
Our Chief Commercial Officer Laurent Odeh spoke during one of the opening strategy sessions and was a panellist during one of the breakout sessions where he discussed the importance of nuclear energy in meeting the needs of technology sectors and artificial intelligence.
Laurent told the opening of the Summit: “In recognition of the expansive transformation required to the global energy network, nuclear energy provides a clear and strategic pathway to propel us on the route to energy security…
“Us in the fuel cycle will be central to deploying this new nuclear and will provide access to a diversified fuel supply that will strengthen national resilience as well as reducing exposure to dependencies.
“We need your help to develop a predictable, political and regulatory framework that will secure the fuel supply chain for the future.”
Key note speeches were delivered at the Summit by the UK Energy Secretary, Ed Miliband, Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.
Prime Minister Starmer emphasised the importance of reducing nations’ reliance on states such as Russia and seizing the opportunity of the clean energy transition.
Urenco attended an Orbital event, in support of Ukraine’s energy independence, as part of the Summit.
We are a long-term enrichment supplier to Ukraine's nuclear operator, Energoatom, and are committed to supporting them during the conflict and beyond.
