Urenco signs UN Women’s Empowerment Principles to strengthen equality commitments

14 January 2025 Global

The signing demonstrates our commitment to “provide an environment where all colleagues, regardless of their background, have the opportunity to thrive”.

CEO Boris Schucht says Urenco signing the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles demonstrates our commitment to “provide an environment where all colleagues, regardless of their background, have the opportunity to thrive”.

Launched in 2010 by UN Women and UN Global Compact, the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) provide businesses with a holistic framework and guidance to help advance gender equality and women’s empowerment in the workplace and value chain. They support the delivery of the gender equality goals and targets of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (Specifically Goal 5 – Gender Equality) such as equal pay for work of equal value, gender-responsive supply chain practices, and zero tolerance against sexual harassment in the workplace.

Upon signing the agreement, Boris said:

“At Urenco, sustainability is at the heart of our purpose as well as being a core value. A vital element of this is providing a safe and healthy working environment for our workforce.

“We are committed to becoming a more inclusive and diverse organisation as we believe it will support our business performance and it is the right and fair thing to do for our people, the society as a whole and the company.

“We are advancing gender equality across our organisation, and as proud signatories of the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) are striving to provide an environment where all colleagues, regardless of their background, have the opportunity to thrive, fulfilling our promise of “enriching the world, enriching your future”.”

There are 7 main Principles to the WEPs, these are;

  1. Establish high-level corporate leadership for gender equality.
  2. Treat all women and men fairly at work– respect and support human rights and non-discrimination
  3. Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all women and men workers.
  4. Promote education, training, and professional development for women.
  5. Implement enterprise development, supply chain, and marketing practices that empower women.
  6. Promote equality through community initiatives and advocacy.
  7. Measure and publicly report on progress to achieve gender equality.

Currently, there are 9911 signatories to WEPs across the globe, and joining this community allows Urenco to collaborate and strengthen our ongoing work with access to multi-stakeholder networks.
