Urenco welcomed the Minister for Business and Industry, Nadhim Zahawi, to its UK enrichment facility, located in Capenhurst, to discuss sustainable energy generation and future nuclear technologies.
The visit, on 13 February, included a tour of one of Capenhurst’s three enrichment plants and was part of a day of engagements for the Minister across the region.
Boris Schucht, Urenco’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “We were delighted to host Minister Zahawi. We discussed Urenco’s plans for future investment, including support for advanced nuclear technologies, and the pivotal role we play in the Northern Powerhouse and realising a Net Zero carbon economy.
The Minister confirmed the continuing importance of cost-competitive nuclear power to the UK energy mix, stating the contribution it could make to a sustainable future clean energy system. He also voiced the strategic importance of Urenco and the key role critical infrastructure such as ours has in driving UK exports from the North West of England.”
