Nuclear energy has an essential role in supporting the Sustainable Development Goals
22 April 2019 GlobalLast week, delegates at the XI International Forum Atomexpo 2019 heard nuclear energy has an essential role in supporting all 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Goals, which are a universal set of goals to end poverty, protect the environment and ensure prosperity for all, were adopted by United Nations member states in September 2015 and will shape government, business and civil society priorities to 2030.
As a responsible business, Urenco has analysed the SDGs and assessed where our operations have the potential to positively impact the goals. In the areas where we make the biggest impact, we have included a synopsis on our corporate website of how our business aligns to each specific goal.
Jayne Hallett, Director of Communications, PR and Sustainability, comments:
“Urenco is pleased to see sustainability was a key topic of discussion at this year’s Atomexpo. Sustainability informs the long term strategy of our business and is inherent in our role as a key player in the global civil nuclear fuel cycle.”
