Commissioning is continuing apace at a new Tails Management Facility (TMF) at Urenco’s UK site.
The responsible management of the by-product of our enrichment services – depleted uranium hexafluoride (UF6) or tails – is crucial to our commitment to uranium stewardship and sustainability.
Our subsidiary, Urenco ChemPlants Limited, is responsible for the construction, commissioning and operation of the TMF. At the facility we will convert tails to stable uranium oxide (U3O8) for long-term storage pending reuse or final disposal.
We are proud of the fact that during the construction of the TMF we achieved more than 7 million hours of safe working, making it one of the safest construction sites in the UK.
Operations at the TMF are planned to start in 2019.
Urenco’s 2018 Sustainability Report will be published on 6 June.
The film was made in collaboration with ITN Productions and the Chemical Industries Association as part of a programme called Solutions for our Future.
