Urenco reflects on another successful year at the Big Bang Fair

21 March 2016 Global

Urenco once again exhibited at the Big Bang Fair this year, the largest celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) for young people in the UK. The event welcomed over 70,000 people from 16-19 March at the NEC, Birmingham.

Through Urenco’s Richie programme, visitors were encouraged to learn more about the opportunities available for those studying STEM subjects. Apprentices from our UK enrichment facility were on hand to speak to visitors and provide industry-related career information.

Urenco ’s virtual reality headsets were a popular addition to its stand this year, enabling visitors to experience the inside of a centrifuge. The headsets are an innovative approach to educating the public about the science behind nuclear energy in a fun and interactive way.

Jayne Hallett, Director of Corporate Communications, commented:

“Our Richie programme is something we take great pride in. We were pleased that the activities we ran at the Big Bang Fair were so well received. Our aim is to nurture an interest in STEM subjects in order to encourage students to consider a career in the energy industry. Events like the Big Bang are a great way to extend our outreach and raise awareness of our educational activities.”
