Statement from the Urenco Ltd Board - EU Referendum
17 May 2016 GlobalUrenco is a UK headquartered company, employing more than 100 people in our head office and more than 450 people at our UK site. We are also in the final stages of building a circa £700 million facility in Capenhurst outside of Chester that currently has 1,500 contractors on site and will employee 95 people when operational in 2017.
Urenco is a world class business, owned in equal parts by the UK Government, the Dutch Government and two German utilities, E.ON and RWE. However, we operate as a stand-alone company. We are a living example of excellent European co-operation over the last 40 years. We believe that Britain being part of the European Union is very important to our company. We think of ourselves as a European based business, with the added benefit of a strong presence in the USA, that supplies the world. To have access to the European Union as a member is of significant importance. Our strategic decisions and long-term investment in the business benefit from having the UK, Germany and the Netherlands within the same economic and market framework.
We can only see advantages to Britain being part of the European Union and believe an exit would bring considerable financial and commercial market uncertainty. We have heard no arguments that in any way suggest that Britain outside of the European Union would benefit our business. We want to see Britain vote in favour of remaining in the European Union, for the benefit of our business, employees and shareholders.
Stephen Billingham,
Chairman, Urenco Ltd on behalf of the Urenco Ltd Board.
