Urenco’s Richie programme has gone from strength to strength over the last year, reaching a record number of schoolchildren, over 17,000, teaching them about energy topics in an engaging, fun and educational way.
Our instructor-led Richie workshops, which are held at schools local to Urenco sites are over-subscribed, yet growing in popularity.
Now in 2015, the Richie programme has been developed into a three-dimensional educational programme, encompassing online and app channels, downloadable classroom materials in partnership with the British Science Association, and a high-profile Annual Lecture. This has enabled Urenco to inspire schoolchildren at key stages in their development, both in primary school and during the year they make GCSE choices.
Since partnering with the British Science Association and rolling out our own CREST Star activity ‘Spinning Solutions’ - a fun, practical activity which teaches children about the fundamentals of independent learning and scientific enquiry - we have reached an extra 11,000 school children since January 2015. We believe this is an efficient and innovative way of reaching more children with a single resource.
Furthermore, Urenco will be holding its Annual Richie Lecture on 2 December 2015, taking place inside the IMAX theatre at the Science Museum, London.
The lecture, titled ‘The Energy Leaders of the Future’ will be focused on nurturing children’s interest in STEM subjects before they have made their GCSE choices.
The lucky participants will get to hear from Gabrielle Walker; TV presenter and expert on the energy industry. Fun science-based activities will be organised to take place after the lecture to engage the children and develop their interest.
